I think that if you do not scan documents often, you do not need to have a scanner at home. It will be another device that you do not really need. The only places that need scanners are those places that offer document scanning as well as scanning of many other things. People have been scanning documents since the invention of the scanner. I do not blame anybody for wanting to have some backup in case something unpredictable happens. Having your documents backed up is no longer an option in those trying times. It is a must as somebody might try to steal them when you do not expect it.
