Avoiding Viruses

April 13th, 2010 Comments off

These days you have to be very careful while being connected to the Internet. If you are not paying attention, it is easy to get your computer infected with viruses or spyware. Viruses can be very dangerous to our computer and our operating system. The worst thing about them is that often you might not even realize that your computer is infected. However, even if you know you have viruses on your computer, it is not always easy to remove them. There are some steps that you can take to prevent being infected in the first place:

-Never open emails that look suspicious. Even if they look like they were sent by somebody that may know you. Be careful when dealing with attachments.
-Avoid downloading a lot of files from the Internet before first verifying that you are dealing with a trusted site. Try downloading files from reputable websites.
-Install an antivirus program on your PC. Always remember to have the latest, the most update version of it. Update your antivirus program on a regular basis. Most antivirus programs will allow you to keep them updated automatically.
-Back up any of your important data on a regular basis. If a virus infects your PC and corrupts any important files, you will have a second copy of them.

When it comes to viruses, there is no reason to panic. I suggest taking some precautions like the ones I mentioned, and hopefully everything will be fine.

Protecting Yourself From Online Fraud

April 13th, 2010 Comments off

Making transaction on the Internet is nothing new, and that is why scammers know of many different ways to cheat people out of their money. There are some ways to protect yourself from scammers, but you should never buy anything from someone you do not trust. Here are some things that you may want to do:

-Buy from established auctions like eBay, and only from people who have a lot of positive feedback. Most of them would not be willing to lose their reputation in order to scam somebody. On the other hand, users with no feedback have almost nothing to lose, and might be even creating new accounts for the sole purpose of scamming. Beware of anyone that has a lot of negative feedback.
-Do not use eGold or similar types of payments, but rather use PayPal that usually offers protection for the buyer. Sites like eGold offer no protection whatsoever, so scammers will be often using such forms of payment. There have been thousands of people being scammed just because they agreed to transfer money to an eGold account.
-Do not buy anything really expensive from someone who does not have a good reputation. There is always a risk when it comes to expensive items. If you buy something that costs only a few dollars, then you will probably not get scammed.

As long as you adhere to the guidelines above, you should not have that many problems. The most important rule is to not trust everyone on the Internet.

Drop Shippers

April 9th, 2010 Comments off

Did anyone of you try selling anything online? If so, you might have come across drop shippers. They are relatively new in the market, and there are various opinions about them that can be found on different forums. Some people think that those are legitimate businesses, while others claim that they got scammed by them. Personally, I have been also looking for some reliable reviews comparing various drop shippers. I hoped they would accurately rate the effectiveness of them. One of the first reviews that I read rated a drop shipper as being the best in the industry. It was a few minutes later that I discovered that the review was written by a company affiliated with the same drop shipper. My conclusion is that one should be very careful when reading any reviews about this kind of companies as they might be one-sided. What I found to be very helpful in finding reliable drop shippers was to visit independent forums where people share their own experiences with carious companies. They are not forced to say anything about any particular subject, so that is why their opinions might be quite valuable. Visit various blogs and forums to obtain as much information as possible.

Drop shipping may be a good way to earn some extra cash, but you need tor realize its drawbacks. First of all, if the drop shipping company will make any mistake, then the buyer might blame you for it. So the problem is that you will need to rely on your drop shipper to be professional.

Contact Forms

April 9th, 2010 Comments off

There are many reasons why a reader may want to contact a blogger. I think that most bloggers should allow their readers to contact them in some way. Webmasters can decide either to display their email publicly, or to have a contact form. Using a contact form will allow your visitors to contact you, but at the same time you will avoid spam by not giving away your email address.

There are also many blogs that can be contacted through email that is displayed when you enter their homepage. In such a case you just need to copy the address, and go to your email account to send them a message. On the other hand, you will not find an email address being displayed anywhere on many blogs. Many of them will be using a contact form plug-in. Here are only some reasons to have this plug-in installed:

-No one will see your email address, so no one will be able to send any spam. You will not be flooded with hundreds of email messages that you have no interest in. Spamming is a real problem these days so it is important to try to avoid giving away your email whenever possible.
-Contact form is an easier way for a reader to contact a blogger. He will not even have to go to his email account. Most readers will appreciate that they have such an convenient way of contacting you.
-Contact forms look more professional, and will make your blog more attractive to readers.

Be as Objective as Possible

April 7th, 2010 Comments off

When a blogger writes posts about some products or services, he might be tempted to write about them in a very positive way. While writing about positive aspects is not necessarily a bad thing, I believe that when you are describing a certain product or service, it is important that you also mention any negative aspects that might be important to your readers. What I mean is that you should not recommend certain websites/products that you personally would not be interested in at all. You should try not to be biased and not describe a product only in a positive tone. If you know that for some reason there is something not attractive about a product/service, then do not be afraid to talk about it. I think that doing so will bring you a lot of satisfaction. However, if you do not do so, it might alienate some of your blog readers if they will realize you are not being completely honest. Of course, every writer might have tendencies to be biased in some manner, but it is important to be as objective as possible. This might be especially important if you have a news blog, and your readers are counting on you to be objective.

While many bloggers strive to be objective, the truth is that in some cases it is hard not to be biased. There are very few bloggers who are not biased at all, but nonetheless it is important to try to be as objective as possible.

First Paragraph

April 6th, 2010 Comments off

There are so many blogs on the Internet that there is a very steep competition. The competition is so steep, that if you want to attract many people to read your posts, you should make sure that your readers will find your post interesting just after reading the first paragraph. This can be accomplished by using phrases that will interest your visitors or including an image. Images are a great way to attract attention, and once you hook someone into reading the first sentence of your post, you need to further interest him by including a sentence that will draw your readers to read the rest of the post. This can be done in multiple ways. For example, you can summarize your opinion in the first sentence, and if this will be an unusual one, then I am sure that it will make people more interested in reading the rest of your post. I cant really give an easy formula for writing the first paragraph, but as I said, there are many ways to do so. Try to simply write something that will interest your readers. Remember that a nice image can do wonders, so dont forget to use them.

Make Money Reselling Items

March 17th, 2010 Comments off

If you are looking for some business ideas, you might want to read this post carefully. One of the ways to make money online is to resell items. This involves buying an item for a low price, and then selling it for a higher price. It sounds easy, but how can you find cheap items? One of the ways is to look for misspelled auctions on sites like eBay. This is because misspelled auctions will often result in an item being sold for a lower price. Such auctions exist because the seller might by mistake misspell the name of the product he is selling. The only challenge we are facing here is that it would take a long time to search for such auctions manually. Fortunately, there are sites like TypoBuddy.com that can help you find commonly misspelled items, listings & words on eBay and Craigslist. It is an interesting way to find good deals.

If you prefer, you do not have to resell them later, but you can simply buy a lot of cheap items for yourself. This could save you hundreds of dollars if you want to buy many products. On the other hand, if this tool becomes popular, then it may be harder to find good deals on products. It is hard to say how much money you can make this way, so it might not be a good idea for you to quit your day job yet. You can rather treat it as a way to earn an extra income.

Hosting of Your Podcast

March 17th, 2010 Comments off

There are a lot of websites discussing how to obtain an appropriate software for your podcast. However, once you have your podcast ready it is time to publish it. Here there are at least a few possibilities how to do it:

If you have a website or a blog, you can simply upload your podcast. This is the most obvious things to do. Check out however how much data you are allowed to store. That is because audio files are usually quite large, so you might soon run out of bandwidth and your listeners will no longer be able to listen to your podcasts. You may also have your hosting account blocked if you use too much bandwidth.
Find a podcast hosting service that is either free or does not cost too much. Believe me, there are services which will not charge you a lot. They will be especially helpful for you if you do not want to host a podcast on your own blog or a website. I cannot recommend you any podcast hosting services, but you can try to Google it.

Overall, you should remember that the popularity of podcasts is growing, and that they may become very popular in the upcoming years.
