What Do You Know About Portugal?

June 1st, 2010 Comments off

Usually, I do not discuss travel destinations on this blog. However, Portugal is one of my favorite countries, so I wanted to share with you some information about it in case you ever want to visit it. I am sure you will find some of the information quite interesting.
Portugal is a country situated in the South Western part of Europe. It comprises not only of mainland, but also of islands of Madeira and Azores. Today, Portugal is a well developed country being a member of European Union since 1986, United Nations since 1955, as well as a few other organizations.

This Southern European country has a very rich history and is famous for its wide explorations and colonization of the world. The so-called Age of Discovery started with the reign of Henry the Navigator who became the main sponsor of numerous voyages that aimed at discovering new territories overseas. Among the most renowned explorers we can find Vasco da Gama, Pedro Alvares Cabral, and Afonso de Albuquerque. Throughout its colonial bloom, Portugal conquered many lands in South America, Africa, and Asia. There are also some interesting speculations that it might have been Portuguese who first discovered Australia.

Portugal is a country which is a popular holiday destination for citizens from Western and Northern Europe. What attracts tourists is its pleasant climate with hot summers with no rain, numerous sandy beaches, attractive architecture, and rich history. The annual temperature ranges between 13 and 18 Celcius degrees. This makes Portugal one of the warmest countries in Europe. The main holiday resorts are spread across the seashore with many of them being situated in the Algarve coast which is in the south. The capital city Lisbon, also known as Lisboa in Portuguese, is visited by many tourists due to its historical and architectural richness.

How Do Search Engines View Your Site

May 31st, 2010 Comments off

Webmasters know the the appearance of their website is very important. Did you ever wanted to know how search engines view your site? If that is the case, then you might be pleased to hear that there is a tool that might help you with that. Seo-browser.com is a quite innovative browser that offers a lot of information about any website you wish to check. It displays information from a search engine point of view, which means you will be able to see such details as page loading time, number of links, detection of robots.txt, number of cookies, number of frames, IP address, and many more. You can use a lot of this information to make your website more compatible, and you can also check if search engines detect the elements you want them to. Remember to switch analysis mode to advanced if you wish to see all of the details.

These days there are so many browsers that it is important to have a template that is compatible with all major browsers. Otherwise, your website is not going to look professional and because of that your site might be receiving less traffic. After all, there are users out there that use Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Google Chrome among others. It is important to know that your site loads properly no matter what browser is used. I am sure that both computer advanced users and those who just created their first website will appreciate this tool.

WebHosting Fun

May 29th, 2010 Comments off

If you are looking for web hosting services for your website, you can either choose cheap webhosting or more expensive webhosting. Cheap webhosting is cheap for a reason. Usually, cheap web hosting will not offer you the same features as more expensive web hosting services. If you have been surfing the Internet for some time, you probably know that most cheap webhosting companies can be trusted. However, from time to time you might encounter cheap webhosting companies that are dishonest and that use questionable tactics to get business. My advice is to stay away from them as much as possible. Watch out for companies offering cheap webhosting but poor customer service. Hosting a website with a bad company can do more harm in the long run. You might even lose some customers due to that.

Adware and Spyware

May 28th, 2010 Comments off

Both adware and spyware are unwanted programs that act without your consent on your computer. It is not easy to uninstall them, as they are not on the list of programs you have installed on your PC. You will not be able to simply go to the control panel in Windows and uninstall them.
Now let us talk about the differences between spyware and adware. Spyware is a type of software that detects what you do in your computer. For example, it can detect what you type when you insert your bank account password. Very often it will also track the website you visit. You have to admit that having spyware on your PC can be quite dangerous. Even the simplest spyware can violate your privacy, but some types of spyware can be even responsible for stealing your credit card information. That is why if you suspect your computer is infected you should take some steps to remove the malware.

On the other hand, an adware is a software that will display automatically, without your consent, various ads that you might have on your hard disk. Generally, adware is less dangerous to you and your computer than spyware. However, adware can slow down your PC, especially if you have a slow Internet connection to begin with. It will also use your Internet connection bandwidth without informing you at all. Another problem with adware is that it often displays random ads, and some of them can be considered offensive, especially if you have small children sitting near your computer.

EBooks

May 27th, 2010 Comments off

Not long ago I tried to find a book written by my favorite author on the Internet. It was a frustrating experience for me. I spend literally a few hours trying to find what I was looking for. Sometime later, I came across a pdf search that made my job a lot easier. Not only did I find my favorite author, but also I was able to download many other eBooks that looked interesting to me. It is good to know that thousands of popular eBooks are located in one place and that it is not that difficult to find them. My recommendation is that you never give up while looking for an eBook. It might be right under your nose. Some eBooks are more difficult to find than other eBooks are, but it does not mean that they cannot be accessible at all.

Link & Feed Exchange Programs

May 27th, 2010 Comments off

If you are looking for a way to drastically improve your Technorati rank, multiply the amount of RSS readers you have, and expose you to new blogs; I encourage you to participate in link and feed exchange programs. Having higher rankings and more readers will result in being more respected in the blogosphere. This in turn will give you even more traffic. I am going to give an example of how such a program can work.

The idea behind it is simple. It is based on the premise that all bloggers want readers and link backs. So how does it work? You simply copy a list on your blog. This results in link backs for your blogging friends. If a particular program is also a feed exchange, you then click the RSS feed link to subscribe to all of them. Then you add yourself or even a few other bloggers and their feeds to the end of the list. You then publish it on your blog. The reason such programs can be so successful is because the news of such an exchange will spread very fast on the blogosphere. Just imagine if 10 people would do this, and later 10 more after them. That would result in your blog obtaining 100 link backs and 100 feed subscribers.

Participating in such programs have various advantages and it is a great way to get exposure for a blog. Usually even new blogs are allowed to participate so every new blogger should consider participating.

Giving Advice

May 27th, 2010 Comments off

Are you considered by your friends as a person who gives good advice? Now it is possible to make money from it. There are sites like Daytipper dot com which pay $3 for each original tip you submit. Three dollars might not be a lot, but if you have many tips you can offer, then who knows, maybe you will become the top contributor. As I stated the tips should be original, submitting tips that were already submitted, or which the staff does not like will result in you not getting paid. This is the part that I do not like, because it seems unfair you would sacrifice your own time writing something, and in the end not getting paid. The problem is that the webmaster has to judge which tip is original or not. The reason I do not like it is because the webmaster might be sometimes biased. Having said that, I still think it might be a good idea to check out the site, especially if you are going to take the time to read some other tips, in order to decide whether a particular tip you wish to submit will be original enough. Of course, apart from earning some extra cash, such websites are also a great place for some social interactions. I imagine that there are many useful tips posted from which you could benefit. Since such sites are usually free, I am tempted myself to start reading the tips posted there.

Stat Tracking Tools

May 26th, 2010 Comments off

An efficient way to analyze many aspects of your blog is to use a stat tracking tool. Such tools measure not only how many visitors come to your website, but also provide a lot of additional information like length of visit, geographical location, keywords used to reach the site, referring websites, and other data. Such information can be used in a multitude of ways, but let me give you an example. Let us say that you are analyzing keywords used by people using search engines to reach your site. Take notes of different terms being used to find your website and you will be often amazed how they reached you. Now that you know what the readers are interested in, you can even try to write posts on some of the topics that are related to the keywords being used, because you know that your readers have interest in it. Furthermore, one of the best aspects of such tracking tools is that most of them are completely free. What you should keep in mind that it may take some time to properly analyze all of the data. It is important not to make any hasty decisions based on your observations, and to take your time while studying the data.

Is Google Producing Content?

May 26th, 2010 Comments off

Like some of you might remember, Google has been already sued by some companies in the past. One of the recent ones was Viacom that sued this giant for $1 billion claiming that their material is showing on YouTube without any authorization. In fact, many companies including book publishers and TV producers fear that Google is going to try to become a huge media business that produces content, and thus is going to compete with them. Many media companies claim that Google built its fortune by taking the content produced by other corporations and publishing it on the Internet. According to Google itself, the fear that many companies have is not well grounded. The giant is not planning at all to threat the publishing and TV units by becoming a content producing business. What do you think about it?

Google is most famous for its revolutionary search engine. Millions of people use Google’s search engine as it offers accurate results and does not cost anything to use. What Google’s search engine does is that it displays results from all over the Web. In this sense Google is not producing any content, but rather focuses on on allowing people to find content produced by other businesses and people.

Mistakes that Bloggers Make

May 25th, 2010 Comments off

Very often I see blogs created by people who have the potential of being great bloggers, but somewhere on the way they make a couple of mistakes and unfortunately fail as bloggers. Many of those people quit blogging aster some time, because they realize that they are not that successful. Here are some mistakes that you should avoid making:

-Choosing a topic that you do not like. If you do not like the topic, there is also a big chance that there are other people who are a lot more knowledgeable about the subject. Choose a topic about which you are fascinated about.
-Quitting prematurely. A person should know when to quit, but you should not quit before you put some work into marketing. You should wait at least a few weeks or even months in order to see whether your blog is getting more popular.
-Not making friends. You need other fellow bloggers as friends. You should especially try to have some contact with prominent bloggers in your niche. They can help you and guide you in the right direction.
-Not believing in yourself. Believe in yourself that your blog will be a success. If you do not believe in yourself, others may not believe in you as well.
