History of Bluetooth

October 9th, 2009 Comments off

A typical person has probably heard the term Bluetooth many times. I am sure that some of us have wondered what were the origins of this word. Although some might think it was created by technology geeks, in fact it was not. I am sure you will be surprised to find out that the name Bluetooth was the name of a Danish king who reigned from 940 to 981. Of course, Bluetooth is his name in English, not Danish. This famous king was renowned for his ability to help people communicate, and this is what he is remembered for. Today, Bluetooth is a wireless technology that provides links between computers, mobile phones, and other handheld devices. Because of Bluetooth it is so easy to connect to the Internet from various handheld devices.

Broadband TVs

October 2nd, 2009 Comments off

The Internet is becoming a lot more accessible each year, and while the prices of most products and services are rising, the cost of Internet connection is usually going down. Since so many people have Internet, this means that it could be used in even more ways than it is used now. Broadband TVs are slowly becoming a reality, and in a matter of years maybe even most TV sets will be permanently connected to a broadband network. You will be able to access YouTube clips of many important events and basically view whatever you want. I predict that broadband TVs will be very popular, but we will have to wait for this to happen. In the meantime the popularity of YouTube will be probably growing.

Mouses vs. Mice

September 29th, 2009 Comments off

The term mouse describes the electronic devices that we use to control our computers. The reason why this device was called a mouse was that in the development lab initially the cord was going from the back of the mouse. This looked like a tail so the device was called a mouse. Later on the term mouse was still being used, although our devices do not resemble that much the furry creates they are being called. Anyway, the question is whether we should use the plural term mouses or mice. The truth is that the plural of this device should be determined by common usage. If this is the case, then both mice and mouses are acceptable. I suggest using the term mouses as it avoids confusing peripheral input devices with rodents; however, you can use either one.

Shortcuts

September 13th, 2009 Comments off

One of the features that I like about PCs is the fact that I can use shortcuts to open various programs, and perform various tasks without using my mouse. In a room where there are many computers, mouses can be quite annoying. I do not have anything against mouses, but for some people it is difficult to concentrate on performing their tasks when there are many people in a room clicking on mouses. That is especially true if people are clicking on mouses repeatedly within a short interval of time. Many believe that if you learn how to perform so many tasks by using a keyboard, then your productivity might get higher. That is why using shortcuts might be a good idea.

If you are a computer geek, you probably spend a lot of time in the evening in front of your PC. It turns out that choosing the right computer case can make your computer a lot less noisy. Generally speaking, the bigger case you buy, the more likely you will need to have a big fan in it. Bigger fans usually result in less noise as they do not have to spin so fast. By investing a little more money in various components, you can make your computer a lot less noisy. If you do that then you will be able to relax in front of your computer.

iTunes or CDs?

September 3rd, 2009 Comments off

There has been a study done that suggests that people are abandoning compact disks in order to buy music from stores like iTunes. This is especially true of teenagers, as half of them do not buy a single compact disk even during a whole year. In 2006 the number of teenagers that did not buy a CD was around 40% according to a study. This shows a quite drastic trend, as at the same time the sale of digital songs grew fifty percent. This is mostly due to iTunes, which appeared to be an excellent business idea. The reason that many people are using their services is that you do not even have to leave your home to buy any music you want. Buying music this way is a very simple process. Additionally, you can find what you are looking for a faster than in a traditional store. Another reason is that the cost of storing music digitally like iTunes does is very low, and as a result customers pay less for their favorite music. On the other hand, traditional stores need a lot of space to store their CDs.
I think that the fact that the Internet is getting more and more popular each year is one of the main factors of the decline of the popularity of CDs. People spend a lot more time on the Internet, so it is natural for them to buy music online.

Projected Keyboards

August 23rd, 2009 Comments off

Many people who travel a lot want to have access to the Internet and to their computer at all times. Generally speaking, the opinion of people is that laptops are the best solution in this case, because they do not weight a lot and they have rechargeable batteries. However, laptops are not the only solution. As a matter of fact, Personal Data Assistants (PDA) have many useful features. The best thing about them is that they weight very little and take little space. Some might argue that since PDAs lack a keyboard, it would not be efficient to type on them. What if I told you that you could use a projected keyboard? There are many devices like this, and most of them require wireless Bluetooth technology. Basically, such projected keyboards can be connected to a PDA, or even a regular computer. These keyboards have even simulated key click sounds and the typing speed can be comparable to regular keyboards. Of course, it might take some time to get used to a projected keyboard, but once that is done the typing speed can be really fast. I believe that projected keyboards make PDAs a perfect device for those who travel a lot.
