Be as Objective as Possible

April 7th, 2010 Comments off

When a blogger writes posts about some products or services, he might be tempted to write about them in a very positive way. While writing about positive aspects is not necessarily a bad thing, I believe that when you are describing a certain product or service, it is important that you also mention any negative aspects that might be important to your readers. What I mean is that you should not recommend certain websites/products that you personally would not be interested in at all. You should try not to be biased and not describe a product only in a positive tone. If you know that for some reason there is something not attractive about a product/service, then do not be afraid to talk about it. I think that doing so will bring you a lot of satisfaction. However, if you do not do so, it might alienate some of your blog readers if they will realize you are not being completely honest. Of course, every writer might have tendencies to be biased in some manner, but it is important to be as objective as possible. This might be especially important if you have a news blog, and your readers are counting on you to be objective.

While many bloggers strive to be objective, the truth is that in some cases it is hard not to be biased. There are very few bloggers who are not biased at all, but nonetheless it is important to try to be as objective as possible.

Neglecting Your Blog

April 6th, 2010 Comments off

One of the main requirements of being a successful blogger is to be able to publish posts on a regular basis. I do not think anyone will argue with that. When people visit a blog they like they like, they might be disappointed to find out that the blog has not been updated for a long time. Maybe there were no new posts published, because the author of the blog was either on holidays, or simply was too busy with his life. In any case, visitors are not going to like that. If a reader noticed that a blog is being neglected, he might be more likely to completely stop visiting it if the publisher does not update it.

It is not always an easy task to maintain regularity in ones blogging life. When it comes to regular jobs, your boss might be demanding and makes you stay after hours. This has some advantages, because you are going to be motivated because of that. With blogging it is different, because there might be nobody who is going to tell you what to do, and that is why blogging is a lot harder than most other jobs. One possible way to keep your blog regularly updated is to prepare a few posts in advance, and then schedule your blogging platform to post them for you. This way the posts are going to be stored on your blogging platform, and they are not technically going to be posted from your computer at that time. Many bloggers take advantage out of this feature, and because of that, their posts are published very regularly.

First Paragraph

April 6th, 2010 Comments off

There are so many blogs on the Internet that there is a very steep competition. The competition is so steep, that if you want to attract many people to read your posts, you should make sure that your readers will find your post interesting just after reading the first paragraph. This can be accomplished by using phrases that will interest your visitors or including an image. Images are a great way to attract attention, and once you hook someone into reading the first sentence of your post, you need to further interest him by including a sentence that will draw your readers to read the rest of the post. This can be done in multiple ways. For example, you can summarize your opinion in the first sentence, and if this will be an unusual one, then I am sure that it will make people more interested in reading the rest of your post. I cant really give an easy formula for writing the first paragraph, but as I said, there are many ways to do so. Try to simply write something that will interest your readers. Remember that a nice image can do wonders, so dont forget to use them.

Hosting of Your Podcast

March 17th, 2010 Comments off

There are a lot of websites discussing how to obtain an appropriate software for your podcast. However, once you have your podcast ready it is time to publish it. Here there are at least a few possibilities how to do it:

If you have a website or a blog, you can simply upload your podcast. This is the most obvious things to do. Check out however how much data you are allowed to store. That is because audio files are usually quite large, so you might soon run out of bandwidth and your listeners will no longer be able to listen to your podcasts. You may also have your hosting account blocked if you use too much bandwidth.
Find a podcast hosting service that is either free or does not cost too much. Believe me, there are services which will not charge you a lot. They will be especially helpful for you if you do not want to host a podcast on your own blog or a website. I cannot recommend you any podcast hosting services, but you can try to Google it.

Overall, you should remember that the popularity of podcasts is growing, and that they may become very popular in the upcoming years.

    Things Not To Forget About

    February 23rd, 2010 Comments off

Taking care of a blog is quite complicated, and that is why there are some things you can forget about quite easily. There are a couple of things that I would like to mention that you should try not to forget about. It is important not to forget about the following points:

    1. Proofread your posts before publishing them, or read them at least a few times. You do not necessarily need another person to proofread your posts. You can do it yourself if you stay focused on what you are doing. If your post is going to contain many mistakes, then your blog is not going to look professional.
    2. Back up your blog often. The WordPress platform can do this automatically with a proper plug-in. However, if your does not, take care of this important aspect. Think how much time you would waste if your posts got deleted. Serious bloggers will always want to back up their blog.
    3. Link to your older posts. In the opinion of many bloggers this is a very good idea. Your highest quality posts might not be easily accessible, and probably are not receiving a lot of traffic. Why not direct more visitors to these posts?
    4. Upgrade your blogging platform. It is a good idea to upgrade your WordPress platform on a regular basis, as it enhances security. It also often adds some new and useful features. Make sure you upgrade your plug-ins as well.

    Real Ranker

    February 1st, 2010 Comments off

Page Rank is the most popular way of ranking websites. There is a similar tool to the popular Page Rank that offers to rate your site in a different manner. In this case its name is Real Ranker, and you can visit its website to check out your rank. What is interesting is that each site is rated from 0 to 100 points, so each site is rated in a more precise way compared to the traditional PR scale from 0 to 10. I do not think that this tool will become very popular, because it was not released by any major company. It is not even backed up by any popular company. Nonetheless, it is an appealing tool that in my opinion has a lot of potential. Visit its website to check your Real Ranker score and see for yourself.

    Monetization Widget

    February 1st, 2010 Comments off

There are many ways to monetize your blog. One of them is to implement monetization widgets. What is a monetization widget, one might ask? It is simply a script that gets displayed on your site as a widget. There are a few companies that offer such kind of widgets. I am going to list two of them, namely WidgetBucks and ScratchBack.

What is attractive about them is that they are similar to other widgets in a sense that they are easy to implement. This is especially true if you have a blogging platform like WordPress that supports plugins. Some of them work like pay-per-click ads, text lick ads, or even like affiliate links. They all might work in a different way, yet all of them provide you with an opportunity to monetize your site.
It is important to remember that while monetizing a website is a good idea, you should always keep your visitors in mind. This means that whatever ads you place on your website should be non-intrusive. Visitors will keep coming to your blog is they appreciate the content being posted there and you have to be careul not to have too many ads or widgets.

    Encouraging Readers to Contribute

    January 8th, 2010 Comments off

When it comes to the world of blogging, having a steady number of visitors is very important. The question is how to increase the reader base. There are different ways to encourage visitors to keep coming, but this time I would like to present you with a way to increase the number of visitors by encouraging them to contribute. By observing the top blogs on the Internet, it is quite easy to notice that many of them encourage their readers to share their own thoughts. This is usually done by asking an open-ended question at the end of the post. You can also simply ask them for an opinion. Ask them about something you know that they have interest in. Of course, another good way to encourage people to contribute is by starting some kind of contest. Anyway, there can be huge benefits arising from having a community that is used to actively contributing. Such dedicated visitors will be a less willing to stop visiting your blog. That is because they will feel that they contributed a lot to it. While it may not be that easy to encourage your visitors to do so, it will be worth it in the long run.
