Promoting Your Blog

August 20th, 2013 Comments off

There are various ways to promote a blog, but one of the most important things is to receive backlinks. I would like to show you some ideas which could result in you receiving a lot of backlinks. Here they are:

-Organize a massive blogroll exchange on your website. Invite everyone to participate, and explain why it is a good idea to exchange links with you. You might mention that while you might not able to exchange links with everyone, you will exchange links with those who respond first. You should make it clear that the more established a blog is, the bigger its chances of getting listed on your site. You can start the post with questions such as “Do you want more traffic to your blog?”, “Do you want some powerful links pointing back to your blog?”, or “Would you like to see your link added to my blogroll?”
-Another idea is to give away money. It does not even have to be a lot, as people will be satisfied with any amount if they receive it for free. You can ask them to write about your site or about yourself. Refer them to any pages which might contain more information. You should ask them to link to your site in their post, and later comment on your post to let you know that they want to participate in the contest. You should also let your readers know at what date you will announce the winners.

Spam Comments

April 13th, 2013 Comments off

CAPTCHA is very often used as a method to reduce the number of spam comments on websites. It is a way to verify that the person who leaves a comment is real, and is not an automated script. For those who do not know, CAPTCHA is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to determine whether the user is human. “CAPTCHA” is an acronym for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart”, and it is often incorporated it in a way that visitors have to type the letters of a distorted image. Most spam comments are posted by bots or programs which are specifically designed for spamming. They automatically visit sites on the Internet to look for places where it is possible to submit comments. They do this in order to post unwanted advertisements of websites or services. One of the best ways to stop these bots is to use the CAPTCHA system which requires the visitor to write down the letters that he sees. Since computer programs do not know how to analyze images, only humans will be able to decipher the letters. While some CAPTCHAs have been broken like phpBBs, it is still a very good method to avoid scripts spamming forums or other websites. A lot of sites are recently adding the CAPTCHA verification system. I think that this will not make them necessarily less enjoyable to visit, but will rather prevent spammers and hackers. However, when using CAPTCHA it is important to make it readable to for average person. After all, we want to stop bots from visiting our site, not our loyal visitors.

What Accent Do You Have?

March 2nd, 2013 Comments off

As a blog author and web publisher my accent is obviously not that important, since I spread my thoughts in a written format. Even though my accent might not be that important, I think that some of you would be interested in what way do I speak. Having this in mind, I took the ‘What American Accent Do You Have’ quiz in order to see for myself. The result of the quiz was that I have the Midland accent, which actually is another way of saying that I do not have any specific accent. So, if you are wondering in what way I speak, then try to imagine someone from Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri or maybe someone from Florida or Charleston, as I speak in a similar way they do. You can take the quiz by visiting gotoquiz.com/what_american_accent_do_you_have.

Traffic Generation

December 11th, 2012 Comments off

Are you interested in the topic of traffic generation? In this article I would like to list some traffic generation ideas that I got recently:

-Include your URL on your business cards. This should increase the number of visitors you receive, especially if you hand out your business card to many people.
-Building a community around your blog is probably the most important thing. Regular visitors can constitute the majority of traffic. Make sure you offer some valuable content to your readers. It is important to build a strong reader base.
-Submit your articles to EzineArticles. Articles that will be accepted will be a good source of traffic as well. Makes sure you link to your own website from the submitted articles. Submitting articles on a regular basis will ensure that your website will receive a steady flow of traffic.
-Getting involved in sites similar to MySpace can boost the number of people visiting your site, especially if they have similar interests corresponding to your niche. Nonetheless, you should make sure that you are not doing anything that is considered spamming.
-Answer questions in Yahoo Answers while including your website’s URL. If you are an expert on some topic, then Yahoo Answers can help you attract many visitors. This strategy can also work for LinkedIn Answers.

There are probably many other ways you can attract traffic; however, the important thing is that whatever you do, you keep doing your best. Eventually there will be many visitors coming to your site.

Is Beta Testing an Excuse for Poor Quality?

May 5th, 2011 Comments off

When it comes to Massive Multiplayer Online Games, it seems that many of them are in the beta stage for an extended period of time. This especially applies to Korean games, as Western games are usually in the beta stage only while the developers work hard on the game. They usually keep the game private in a sense that they only allow a limited amount of testers to participate in the beta tests.

The situation is completely different when we take a look at Korean games. Those games are officially in the beta stages while they allow everybody to play it, and even after they officially launch. This means that many Korean games are getting released even though they are not polished enough. Unfortunately, many Asian games fall into this category. Many observers speculate that the reason behind extending this beta phase is to have an excuse for poor quality of many of those games.

According to gamers, if everyone is allowed to play a game, it should not be considered to be a game in beta. Before a product is released and being sold, the developers should ensure that everyone is satisfied with the overall quality. Gamers will not trust developers that release unpolished games. That is just a simple fact and it is in the best interest of game developers to ensure that all products that they release are polished. If a game is released to the general public, then it does not look very professional if the developers uses an excuse the the game is still in beta.

Using Fancy Fonts

May 4th, 2011 Comments off

There are thousands of fonts available, and some of the font creators really earn a lot of money. People like good looking fonts, so no wonder that there is such an abundance of them. It sometimes happens that bloggers edit their style sheet file and change the font to some really pretty font that is very original. If you are reading this post you might think I will explain how to change the font of your blog, but this post has a significantly different purpose. I am actually hoping to convince you to stick to regular fonts, unless you are in some specific niche like a calligraphy website. Most blogs exist to deliver some kind of message to their readers, and this is most easily achieved with easy to read, standard fonts. I think we should make the process of reading as easy as possible, and do not make it harder for your readers. There might be some exceptions for blogs of artists, or for personal blogs; however, most blogs should stick to standard fonts. Most reputable news websites use a very basic font like Times of Roman, because they want it to be easy for readers to read articles.

Censoring the Blogosphere

May 2nd, 2011 Comments off

One of the most basic rights is the right of free speech. However, it seems that some countries want to censor the blogosphere. Do not worry, if you live in United States or Europe, you have nothing to worry about. However, for all of the Russians or Chinese this might be a real problem. From time to time we hear some news about the desire of these countries to censor the blogosphere. As an example, I can give you a discussion held in Russia some time ago about creating a Russian computer network, one that would be separate from the Internet. It would also at large be much easier for the authorities to control. This is mostly due to political reasons. However, as a blogger I just want to say that I strongly believe in the right of free speech, and I think that such behavior is unacceptable. I think that free media is very important, and that other bloggers will agree with me as well. Officials from some countries argue that they do not want various websites to spread lies about their countries, or political system. However, citizens should have the right to express themselves, even if for some reason they are not correct. The great thing about the Internet is that it is easy for anyone to express his opinions. One of the best ways to do it is to have a blog and that is why blogging is becoming more popular with each passing day.

Waking up Early

October 11th, 2010 Comments off

I got inspired to write this article after visiting another website. That website belongs to a completely different niche; however, the author of that site had some interesting thoughts that I think are worth mentioning. Anyway, I would like to discuss the idea of waking up early. I believe that waking up early is a good habit for bloggers, because blogging requires a lot of work. If you get up early then you can accomplish a lot more things. This is definitely the biggest argument as any successful blogger will tell you that you will need to invest a lot of time if you want your blog to be popular. I also think that it is easy to write a lot of posts in the morning, as for most people it is harder to do any work in the evening. I mentioned that this applies to most people and not to all, because I know that a lot depends on the individual. Some bloggers have the most work done during the night. On the other hand, since for most people it is more natural to work in the morning, our productivity would increase if we were getting up a little bit earlier. Try to get up earlier, and see how it works for you. It may be a good idea to write one post each morning. I am sure you will be surprised how much work can be done in the morning straight after you wake up. You will be rested and that is why your productivity will increase.

Make Money with eBooks

October 3rd, 2010 Comments off

You do not necessarily have to write eBooks in order to be able to distribute them and make money in the process. I am not discussing earning money by selling someone elses copyrighted eBooks. What I mean is that you can insert your affiliate links in someone elses non-copyrighted eBooks, and then upload them on different websites so that people can download them for free.

There is a service called Butter Fly Reports that was invented by Mike Filsaime and Rod Beckwith, two Internet market experts. What they do is that every month they offer free eBooks, and allow their readers to put their own affiliate links in it. This is definitely an interested way to make some extra money, and it is also a quite innovative type of viral marketing. If you prefer not to write eBooks, then you should check out this idea.

On the other hand, it might be a good idea to write eBooks yourself, and allow people to distribute them. This way your website will gain a lot of popularity, and you will be able to monetize your site with ads. Integrating AdSense ads can be a good idea if you have a lot of traffic. Of course, writing eBooks is not always as easy as it sounds. In order to write an eBook You will need to have some interesting ideas and good writing skills. If you want to get inspired then it might be a good idea to read many eBooks.

Unsubscribing from RSS Feeds

October 2nd, 2010 Comments off

Have you ever wondered why people find a blog interesting, and then suddenly stop visiting it, or unsubscribe from the RSS feed? Would you like to know how to increase the number of your RSS subscribers in order to reach out to even more people than you ever did? There are bloggers who already conducted a survey to provide us with answers why people unsubscribe from RSS feeds. Some conducted this type of experiment last year. Based on the responses they discovered the main reasons why readers stop visiting some of the blogs. In my article, I am going to mention five of the main reasons people might no longer want to visit a blog. Here they are:

1. The author publishes too many or too few posts.
2. Inconsistent or infrequent posting.
3. Author does not broadcast the full RSS feed.
4. Author changes direction.
5. Lack of original content.

Are you surprised? If a blogger writes too many posts he might discourage his readers, because they will not be able to keep up. Eventually, they will feel overwhelmed. There is always some truth in surveys, and we should not ignore the results of such experiments. If you are a blogger you might want to take a closer look at the results of this survey.
