Robots Patrolling Streets

August 4th, 2010 Comments off

Will we reach a point in time that robots will be patrolling the streets, as security officers? The truth is that such robots already exist, as a homemade robot is patrolling an American neighborhood after dark. The robot is operated by an ex-marine who believes that the robot restores peace and increases security. He claims that no break-ins had been reported and that the park across the street feels safer. Other people claim that the robot exploits the kind of anxiety that underlies the Terminator movies, as many people are scared by this bot. The design of the bot itself is very interesting, as it is remotely controlled by the ex-marine, and the robots loudspeaker can be used to communicate with people. I think that utilizing robots in such fashion is a good idea, especially once people will get more used to robots. Robots should be used to perform tasks that are dangerous to humans. Patrolling streets at dark may be one way robots will be used.

Getting One Way Links

It is important to have links pointing to your site from other peoples blogs. Such links will not only contribute to higher Page Rank, but can also bring a lot of targeted traffic. There are at least a few ways you can try to obtain such links. Your site will benefit from them, so here is what you can do:

-Submit your blog to as many directories as possible.
-Submit your articles to free article directories.

The process of submitting your blog and articles can and will be time consuming. However, there is a solution to this problem. You can purchase the appropriate software that will do it for you automatically. This will cost you some money, but if you are dedicated to blogging it will not be a problem. Additionally, if your blog generates some money, your investment will surely not be wasted. It will still take you some time to register in order to submit your articles, but you will only have to do it once. The same applies to web directory submission. Many programs already have directories listed in their database for your convenience. I know there are many webmasters taking advantage out of such software, and they claim that it is worth it.

Why You Should Back Up Your Data

July 22nd, 2010 Comments off

It seems obvious that each computer user should back up all important data on his PC. The question is whether people really protect their computers from data loss. Here are some of the reasons why you might want to consider backing up data to be a part of your regular routine:

1. You can lose your data anytime due to even a single virus on your PC.
2. Power failure and hard disk problems might also contribute to significant data loss.
3. Do not assume that computers nowadays are secure. This false sense of security can be the reason you might lose important data.
4. You should back up all valuable data so that you will not have to worry about losing it. You will be able to sleep peacefully knowing that your valuable data is safe.

If you decide to back up your data, then you should consider using an external hard drive for this purpose. Make sure you store it in a safe place so that no one will be able to get hold of it. If you are wondering how often you should back up, I am going to say that there is no magical number. Once per month is generally considered to be a good idea, but if you want to be on the safe side you may want to back up every week. Some decide to make a back up on a daily basis, but it actually might be quite excessive, so in the end it is your choice.

Mac vs. PC

July 21st, 2010 Comments off

Computers are generally divided into two categories, namely PCs and Macs. Some people love Mac, but as an avid computer user myself, I discourage people from buying a Mac. I have listed some reasons below:

First of all, Mac is being sold only in a handful of countries. If you are an American, and let us say that you will stay in Europe for a year or two, do not be surprised if you are going to be one of the only people with a Mac. If you have an international mindset, you might be surprised that in many countries people did not even hear about Macs and there is no support for them whatsoever.
The most popular software does not work on Mac. If you have been a PC user for many years, why would you want to abandon using all of the programs that you know so well?
When it comes to software, it might be very difficult to operate as a business or a professional without having access to MS Office at home. Office is pretty much the standard in the business world.

Even if Macs were a few more percent more efficient in comparison to PCs, it does not really matter, because they are not popular enough in the world to justify buying them.

Many gamers buy games on a regular basis as there are so many attractive titles coming out. Often gamers do not realize that this hobby can be quite costly. Let us say that an average gamer spends $1000 per year on games. That equals to $83 per month is a price of two games. Since games are becoming more and more appealing to adults, we are going to assume that gamers are going to pursue their hobby for 20 years. If you multiple $1000 by 20 years you will see rather large sum of money which equals $20,000. As you see this hobby is quite expensive; however, can we really put a price on entertainment?

It is quite evident that gaming is a hobby that requires a lot of money. While this might seem expensive, there are also many accessories that gamers like to acquire. One of the newest things is a gaming chair, which is supposed to make playing more enjoyable. They might indeed be comfortable, but they are also quite costly. You are going to have to pay anywhere from $150 to over $5000 to acquire one so be prepared for this before you plan to buy one. Such gaming chairs are usually specifically designed for racing games, but you can use them to play other games as well. Podcasts and Your Blog

July 14th, 2010 Comments off

More and more people on the Internet listen to podcasts. For those who do not know, podcasts are similar to blog posts. The difference is that podcasts are in audio format. More technically speaking, a podcast is a collection of digital media files that are distributed over the Internet. It often uses syndication feeds for playback on portable media players and personal computers. Podcasts have become more and more popular, and some believe this is due to iPods. That is because iPods allow its users to listen to thousands of audio and video podcasts. In any case, if you want to compete with the best websites in your niche, you might consider using podcasts to gain an edge over your competitors. All you have to do is use the podPress plug-in that you can find on wordpress.org. This plug-in enables you to incorporate podcasts without making any serious changes to your site. There are many advantages of podcasts, but the biggest one is that you can speak directly to your readers or rather listeners.

One downside of podcasting is that not everyone knows how to subscribe to podcasts. However, once people get the hang of it, they usually really enjoy it a lot. They might even become fans because they will like them so much. If you want to add a personal feeling to your blog, at least consider the possibility of integrating podcasts. You might start by listening to some of the popular podcasts on the Internet in order to get inspired.

Hosting Your Blog

July 9th, 2010 Comments off

On this website I give advice about blogging and about a variety of Internet topics. One of the key aspects of blogging is having your domain and hosting associated with it. If you want your blog to look professional, you need to choose an established and successful hosting provider that you will be able to depend on. There is nothing worse then investing a lot of your time in your blog and then realizing that your site is not working properly or is even down, because of your hosting provider. There have been cases where hosting providers suddenly vanished, either because of debt, or because they did not have profits. That is why you should be careful choosing your hosting provider and should ask other webmasters what they think about a specific company. You may even want to visit a website that discusses Web hosting, because you can never be too careful choosing a web hosting provider for your blog. You should always ask whether the uptime is guaranteed and what is the bandwidth limit. Basically, you jsut want to make sure that your blog will continue to work without any interruptions, even if you will decide to host larger files like audio or videos.

Why Not Switch To a Custom Domain?

July 8th, 2010 Comments off

When it comes to blogging, there are some decisions to be made related to our domain names. First of all, we have to decide where we want to host our website. For example, if we decide to host our site on Blogspot, then our domain name will look like this: domain.blogspot.com. On the other hand, if we choose a custom domain, then we can completely customize our domain name. We will also not be forced to use blogspot, wordpress, or any other word in our blog address. Custom domain cost money, but some sites can teach you how to have an extra income to cover the costs of your domains.

Being hosted on a custom domain name is generally considered to be a better solution, but why are there still many successful blogs that are hosted on Blogspot? I believe that they did not switch to a custom domain name, because they did not want to lose their domain age and back links. If that happened, this would mean that from a SEO perspective they would have to start from the beginning. Since accumulating links can take a long time, changing a domain is not an easy decision to make.
Another aspect to consider may be growing registration fees. The registration fees for domain names are generally getting higher, as VeriSign quite often raises the prices. VeriSign raised the prices at least two times since 2006, so some analysts are getting alarmed by this trend. I think that the prices are still relatively low, as the cost of hosting is the major expense for webmasters. This especially applies to those with a lot of traffic and downloadable resources such as videos, audio, and software. VerisSign claims that the .com and .net infrastructures are continually being fortified against more sophisticated cyberattacks, so let us hope that this company will spend the extra money it is receiving on security.

The decision whether to switch to a custom domain will ultimately be up to you, so consider all facts before making a final decision.
