Games in Windowed Mode

April 9th, 2010 Comments off

Running games in windowed mode has many advantages. We live in the era of emails, instant messengers, and browsers. If you play a game in a windowed mode you may still want to have access to all of those programs. Even if you are playing a single player game, in the meantime you can talk with your friends thought instant messengers and emails. You may also check the browser for important news or updates in which you are interested in. I already explained the benefits of windowed mode, but what if the game does not have a windowed mode checkbox in options? There are a few things you can do:

-Make a shortcut to the .exe of your game, right click on it, select properties and in the Target either add -win, -window, or windowed, depending on the application. Not all games support it, but it does seem to work for the majority of modern games.
-You can also use a program called 3DAnalyze. It allows you several tweaks for games, but one of the more notable ones is the possibility of windowed mode. Select a program, check force windowed mode and press run. Should work for many programs as well.

Hopefully, more and more programs/games will support windowed mode, so that all you would have to do is mark an appropriate checkbox.

Neglecting Your Blog

April 6th, 2010 Comments off

One of the main requirements of being a successful blogger is to be able to publish posts on a regular basis. I do not think anyone will argue with that. When people visit a blog they like they like, they might be disappointed to find out that the blog has not been updated for a long time. Maybe there were no new posts published, because the author of the blog was either on holidays, or simply was too busy with his life. In any case, visitors are not going to like that. If a reader noticed that a blog is being neglected, he might be more likely to completely stop visiting it if the publisher does not update it.

It is not always an easy task to maintain regularity in ones blogging life. When it comes to regular jobs, your boss might be demanding and makes you stay after hours. This has some advantages, because you are going to be motivated because of that. With blogging it is different, because there might be nobody who is going to tell you what to do, and that is why blogging is a lot harder than most other jobs. One possible way to keep your blog regularly updated is to prepare a few posts in advance, and then schedule your blogging platform to post them for you. This way the posts are going to be stored on your blogging platform, and they are not technically going to be posted from your computer at that time. Many bloggers take advantage out of this feature, and because of that, their posts are published very regularly.

Internet in Rural Areas

March 31st, 2010 Comments off

If you have ever lived in a rural area somewhere in the United States, you probably know how hard finding high speed Internet might be. If you live in a big city, you probably never had any problems with your Internet connection. Those living in rural areas have more things to worry about. In the past, having high quality Internet was not possible in many rural areas. Today, thanks to wild blue high speed internet, it is possible. While a person might still choose to try cable Internet or Internet offered by his cellular communications company, wireless high speed Internet has its advantages. Many people are accustomed to using cable Internet. While cable Internet might be useful in some circumstances, the truth is that cable Internet is not always acting the way it is supposed to act. Cable Internet can be fast, but it is not reliable enough to justify using it. Having cable Internet can be unfortunate. You will know how it feels to have unreliable Internet if you are in the middle of doing something and your connection stops. If you have cable Internet, you might need to wait for your cable company to fix the problem. Sometimes it might take hours or even days.

Thermal Paste

March 12th, 2010 Comments off

Thermal paste is very important when it comes to computers, because it protects the CPU from overheating. It is important to apply thermal paste to the CPU before you attach a heatsink to it. If for some reason you decide not to use thermal paste, then you risk permanently damaging your CPU. There are some basic rules on how to apply a paste and usually they should be described on the package of the thermal paste that you purchased. If no instructions are included, then you should simply try to apply a thin layer of thermal paste to your CPU. Just gently apply the paste on the top of the CPU remembering that the layer should be thin and not too thick. What computer users will consider as good news is the fact that actually many heatsinks already come with a layer of thermal paste attached to it. In such a case, you might no longer have to worry about buying additional paste. Of course, after a few years there might be a need to reapply it. Some technicians recommend that you apply thermal paste each year if you have the opportunity to do so. The CPU is the most expensive component of most computers, which is why we should take special care of it.
Another thing that you should remember is that while there are different brands of thermal pastes, even the least expensive ones should be sufficient enough. There is no need to buy the most expensive thermal paste if you can avoid it.

Dedicated Servers

February 23rd, 2010 Comments off

If you are a businessman, I am sure that your business can benefit from Dedicated hosting. If you have a dedicated hosting plan, you do not have to share it with anybody. That way your website can be more accessible to your visitors at any time of day or night. It is also important to remember that you do not have to spend a fortune on your own dedicated server, because virtual servers can be affordable, even more affordable then you might think. Many people believe that the type of web hosting plan you choose is one of the most important business decisions you may ever make; therefore, it is important to choose your hosting plan wisely. Virtual servers are a good choice especially for those who require a high degree of security, a lot of storage space, and a large amount of bandwidth. Virtual servers run their own operating systems in a private and secure environment, which means that they cannot be interrupted or accessed by any of their neighboring servers. I have seen many businesses that use dedicate hosting services. They cannot afford to allow their websites to be offline even for a small amount of time because this could mean losses to their company.

Torrents

February 15th, 2010 Comments off

Torrents are relatively a new thing. Since so many people make use of this important feature the Internet offers, I decided to write a few sentences about torrent search tools and torrents download. Have you ever used a torrents search tool that you really liked and enjoyed? Finding torrents on the Internet might not be easy. With so many millions of files scattered throughout the Internet a person can feel puzzled and lost. However, if you know where to find a good and reliable torrents search engine, things get a lot easier. Many people do not know how to use torrent search engines and how to make the best use of various torrent tools. If you are new to the Internet and torrent search, then I recommend that you start using some kind of torrent search tool. Any kind of tool is good in the beginning provided that it does the job the right way. The tool you want to you is a tool will allow you to find any torrent in no time and completely for free. It will also help if you find a tool that indicates new torrents in search options each day. It is important, because you do not want to have to worry that you are going to miss any file you would like to find.

Refurbished

February 11th, 2010 Comments off

Nothing is worse than buying a computer and realizing that parts for it might be difficult to find if something goes wrong with the computer. Let us have a look for example at AS/400. Those IBM users who use those systems might have problems finding parts they need. IBM is a producer of computers and other devices, but some of its parts are difficult to find on the market. The same goes for iSeries or i5 series. I recently discovered what to do if I need some parts. I can always find some resellers of AS/400 systems on the Internet rather than try to find them in my area. I have heard a story of a person who needed to replace one of his old computers. He spent plenty of time looking for parts. He had plenty of determination and patience. At the end, the determination and patience paid off. I believe that each person should try to refurbish his computer from time to time. Refurbishing a computer can prevent some parts from being damaged easily. If a person takes care of his computer, he is more likely to have a computer that will serve him for many years to come and one that will always be in good shape.

File Transfer Protocol

February 9th, 2010 Comments off

File Transfer Protocol is the most popular protocol used to exchange files. It can also be used to manipulate files, and that can be done by a FTP client by connecting to a server. Of course, it is important that the server is reliable, especially if important information is being transferred through the protocol. That is why it is important to find FTP hosting that has high uptime and intuitive interface to connect to the server. You can connect to an FTP server by using FTP programs or simply by using any browser. Connecting by using a browser may be especially attractive to companies that have many clients. That is because all Internet users know how to use a browser, but not all of them may know how to use an FTP program. In case of businesses, security is very important and that is why SFTP hosting is designed especially for them. SFTP stands for secure file transfer protocol. It encrypts files by using SSH to transfer files. It is possible to enhance security by setting permissions granting rights to delete, upload, and download for each individual user. Overall, exchanging files using SFTP is secure, and it is going to appeal to both businesses and individual customers.

Sudoku

February 5th, 2010 Comments off

Many people in the world have probably heard of Sudoku. Sudoku is an Eastern game that is aimed at improving a persons ability to think logically. Sudoku is a very addicting game where numbers are involved and requires time to be solved. The easiest way but probably not the most effective one, is to play Sudoku on a piece of paper. However, for a more enjoyable experience I suggest that you download some sort of software that will enable you to play it as many times as you want. There are also many small devices that you can buy that are designed only for playing Sudoku. They are available on the Internet and are a great gift idea. It is hard to imagine of a better way to spend time if you wait in line for a doctors appointment, or have to wait to meet with somebody. One advantage of playing an electronic version of Sudoku is that it can generate unlimited number of games. This means that you will never have to worry about being bored again. There are also many other similar games being offered. If you want to play on your computer, then you can download freeware versions of many games.

Accessing Restricted Websites

February 4th, 2010 Comments off

Sometimes it is impossible to access some websites, because there is restricted access to them. The tips I am about to present to you will be especially helpful to you if you want to access some of the pages from your workplace and the administrator banned them or restricted access to them. Another possible situation that comes to my mind is that maybe the government of your country banned some of the sites so that its citizens do not have access to certain politically incorrect sites. Such situations occur in China and in some other Asian countries. There are at least two methods to access your desired websites:

1. Search the banned website through Google or other search engine. After finding it, enter its cache copy. This is a very popular method and it is very easy to do. However, this may not work for websites or pages that were never cached. That should not be the case with popular websites. Most websites have many of their pages cached so you should not have problems accessing pages this way.

2. In Google or any other search engine type this keyword: ‘cache:URL name’. This will take you straight to the cache copy of that website. This method is very similar to the previous one. You should use this method only if you know exactly the URL you plan to visit. If you make even a small mistake while typing the URL, then Google is not going to list any results.

3. Try to connect using a proxy. This may not work for all websites, but it may trick many servers into thinking that you are from a different country. There are some free proxies out there that you may use and one of them is YourFreedom. It might help you access some websites that otherwise you would not be able to visit.
